The Team at How To Get Into Drama School is Proud to Announce its Yearly Scholarship Program

The coaches at How To Get Into Drama School are excited to tell the world about their new yearly scholarship program for aspiring actors. The Actor of Tomorrow award, which provides $500 cash plus 3 coaching sessions with Juilliard graduates, will be given to one talented, hardworking student who has a love for theatre and shows a promise in artistic ability. Who is Eligible for The Scholarship?

If you are intending to audition this upcoming year for a minimum of 3 Acting or Musical Theatre programs (BA, BFA, or MFA), we invite you to apply. 

As Juilliard grads, we know firsthand just how competitive getting into drama school is, and we want this award to go to a deserving student who we believe is ready for the next step in their artistic development.

The winner will receive a $500 cash award plus 3 coaching sessions on their audition pieces from Juilliard Drama graduates. (Total Value $1,000)

Our Easy Application Process

Because we want to extend this opportunity to as many people as possible, we’ve intentionally made our application process simple and easy to understand. Here’s how to apply:

  • Write an essay of 500-1500 words on the topic: “The story of when I grew the most as an actor”

  • Perform one monologue from a play and record digitally OR perform one song from a musical and record digitally (choose monologue or song, not both)

    • monologue can be classical or contemporary, song can be Golden Age or contemporary

    • must be between 1.5 minutes and 2 minutes in length

    • no original material

    • no audio/video editing within the selection

  • Send one email with completed essay and video attachment to us at scholarship@howtogetintodramaschool.com. Subject line is "First Name Last Name - Acting" or "First Name Last Name - Musical Theatre."  In the body of the email, please include the name of the piece you have selected. 

  • All submissions must be received on or before October 16, 2020. 

  • Essay must be in Microsoft Word or PDF format.

Winner Selection

After the October 16, 2020 deadline, our scholarship committee will evaluate all entries based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic maturity 

  • Storytelling ability

  • Emotional connection to imaginary circumstances

  • Voice and speech clarity

  • Physicalization

  • Boldness of choices

Please note: If your application is chosen by our scholarship committee as one of the finalists in consideration for the scholarship, we may reach out and ask you for a Letter of Recommendation before a winner is selected.

 

We will choose a winner on November 1, 2020, and we’ll notify them by email and by phone*.

*The award will be distributed upon confirmation that the winner has officially submitted their application materials to at least 3 Acting or Musical Theatre programs (BA, BFA, or MFA).
